Prior to this week’s snow/sleet storm, our mild winter had encouraged my native plant garden to get going earlier than normal. I loved to come home and see what the garden had accomplished while I was at work. A few more leaves here, stalks are a little higher there, a bud here and there. Hopefully our recent storm won’t have a lasting impact on my garden’s success this year. Prior to the storm I identified a few spots that could use a couple more plants. Luckily for me the spring native plant sales are around the corner. Native plants offer many positive attributes including food and habitat benefits for local wildlife, an adaptation for our climate and soils, and a decreased need for pesticides, herbicides, or extra watering during dry periods.
